East Hampton Day Care Learning Center Services

The East Hampton Day Care Learning Center is the only not-for-profit educational organization providing full-day, year-round child care in East Hampton. It offers programs for pre-school children ages 18 months to five years. The Center serves a diverse community and is located adjacent to the John Marshall Elementary School in the Village of East Hampton.

The Center provides programs for the social, intellectual, artistic, emotional, and physical development of pre-school children. The Center offers an environment for learning and growth during one of the most important developmental periods in a child’s life. The Center makes available a toddler program for 18 months to two-year olds, a program for three year olds, and a pre-kindergarten program for four year olds. Kindergarten and first grade teachers consider graduates of the Center well-prepared for elementary school.  The Pre-Kindergarten program follows the “Success for All” research based curriculum.

The Center is crucial not only to the education of children but also to the support of working parents and local businesses that employ them. It provides parents with the peace of mind that their children are in a safe and enjoyable environment while the parents are at work.

The East Hampton Day Care Learning Center’s pre-kindergarten program is a collaboration with the East Hampton School District. This cooperative effort between the Center and the school district allows the district to provide pre-kindergarten development for all children  at minimal additional cost to taxpayers. The program is unique in Town in that it combines a half-day of kindergarten with a half-day of day care allowing parents to work a full day.

The Center welcomes and encourages volunteerism. Social workers and community representatives volunteer their time to work with children and parents. Local high school students volunteer as part of their community service requirements.

BRIEF FINANCIAL OVERVIEW

The Day Care Center’s annual operating budget is  $1.4 million. About 25% of our revenue comes from parent fees, the remainder from tuition reimbursment, grants and tax-deductible charitable donations.

We keep our tuition rates low, well below market rates, so that we can enroll a diverse population of students and maintain a level of affordability. The Center is required to charge the same fee to all parents but many parents still cannot afford the fee. As part of its mission to provide early education to all regardles of ability to pay, the Center offers tuition assistance. We also assist parents in seeking funding from the Suffolk County Department of Social Services or other resources as appropriate.

The East Hampton School District reimburses the Center for each pre-kindergarten student, and pre-K students do not pay tuition.
